Red Shirts avoid late Army charge

CR and FC pulled off a 22/18 win over Sri Lanka Army Sports Club in their Nippon Paint Inter Club Rugby League 2022/ 2023 encounter which was worked off at Longdon Place last evening.

At the short breather CR led 17/10. This was the last encounter in round 1 of the Inter Club League games.

The hosts, CR and FC drew first blood through Raveen de Silva try and Thenuka Nanayakkara conversion. A few minutes later CR scored their second try through former Isipathana player, Manilka Ruberu. Thenuka Nanayakkara was on target with the kick at goal to take the lead to 14/0.

Solders opened their account through Sudaraka Dikkumbura try and Chathiranga Perera was on target with the kick at goal. There was time for Chatura Seneviratne (CR) and Chathuranga Perera (Army) to put over a penalty each for their sides to take the short breather at 17/10 favouring the hosts.

After the turn around Army SC played with better coordination. Chathuranga Perera started the second half with the penalty for the Solders but CR hit back through Kalindu Nandila try. Army ran out of time as they could score one more try by Sudaraka Dikkumbura.
